Whether you’re looking to advertise your website or to make a bit of profit by advertising from your own, affiliate programs are starting to become pretty hefty earners for a large number of people from both parties. The benefit of affiliate programs is that you know you’re benefiting someone else while you’re either earning money so no one loses out. One crucial thing to remember, however, is that not all affiliate programs are the same.

When choosing a program to sign up to you shouldn’t just go for the first one you see. If you’re looking to place links on your pages you should consider how many people will actually follow that link and whether your site (which should already have traffic) has the sort of people who would buy whatever it is your affiliate is selling. Don’t simply use the product that generates the most sales on your site if it isn’t related to the content or people you have there. Remember, you only get paid every time someone follows the link (and often only if they buy the product at the other end), so having something that people will be interested in shown generates more money for you.
